To tell a story in a group it helps to spark your fellow storytellers creativity. This could be done in roleplaying gaming session through some thought provoking and open questions.

Fatal blow

This is also a great moment to let something awesome happen

  • Describe what happens when you kill him
  • How do you kill him
  • What happens once you land the fatal blow?

Describe the monster you're attacking

This could be done by the first players to attack a monster first, or you could use a rotating system. Ask them before they attack the monster.

  • What caught your characters eye when it attacks this monster?
  • What’s an interesting aspect of the monsters appearance?

Describe an aspect of a location

After, or before, you give a base description of a location, you could ask your players to expand upon it

  • What does this room smell like?
  • What does your character notice in this room?
  • What is a cool aspect of this room?

Describe a long journey

After setting up the base premise and giving them a bounded context to work with, you could ask them to fill in the details. This could lead to new events, roleplaying or something else. Note: These events should not be relevant to the characters, party or story.

Other examples

  • NPCs
  • Weather
  • Events & holidays in the city
  • Drinks or food they’re ordering in the pubb
