It is I, Mathieu
Mathieu De Raedt, born 1994 in Belgium, now living in Germany.
I’m a senior software engineer with a passion for functional programming, particularly Elixir. I appreciate open source, thoughtful technology choices, and keeping things delightfully boring.
What I Do
I work on backend systems using Elixir at 7Mind GmbH, where we develop mindful mobile applications. Previously, I’ve worked extensively with .NET/C#, Azure, and various web technologies across multiple domains including healthcare and legal tech.
I’m drawn to technologies that are both powerful and elegant. Elixir gives me the reliability of the Erlang VM with syntax that’s a joy to work with. Nix provides reproducible environments that just work and you can forget about.
I even wrote down my My Setup, have a look!
Beyond Computers
When not programming, I spend time with my partner Lina and Danu, our dog. I enjoy boardgames, brewing a good cup of oolong or black tea, listening to some electro swing, and occasionally run D&D campaigns. I’m also a Type 1 diabetic.
I document my thoughts and learnings in my Digital Garden, covering software engineering topics, business, Start-ups and entrepreneurial ideas and role-playing, games and story telling.
Philosophy
- Software should be delightfully boring
- Curb complexity whenever possible
- Last responsible moment
- Never stop learning and growing
- growth work
