Asking players what they want, for example which type of magical item is a great way to make your player enjoy the adventure.

You sometimes need to coax your players into giving concrete examples and just asking “What do you like about XYZ” might not cut it. If you run into that problem, ask for examples, “What was your favourite moment in recent campaigns”.
