Whilst you’re holding the team together, you’re removing friction. The lack of friction is often not noticed by the team or your superiours and is only really noticed when it’s there. Doubly so when it returned.

When you’re performing glue work, you’re accelerating your team, usually by removing friction. By itself it’s already under appreciated and sometimes even not promotable, if it’s not part of your job description it might fly even more under the radar.

An engineer that acts as an unofficial team lead or project manager, might struggle with this under appreciation in some environments.

If this experience keeps being in the dark, your career can suffer. Trying to make it surface is quite hard and your impact might me most noticed when the friction returns.
