To be able to have long term insights of a metric, storing historical data is crucial.
If you keep switching the data, or worse the metrics, you will not be able to plot improvements or regression and lost the true value. In exchange you got a snapshot which does not show true trends.
For example, when you don’t have a base-line you will not be able to Build, measure, learn or do Cohort analysis.
